Several years ago I had the opportunity to host an event that honored the men and women who gave their lives so we could have freedom in this great country. It was an incredible event. Over 9,000 men gathered together at Bridgestone Arena and joined former President George W Bush, Lee Greenwood, Michael W. Smith, Darrel Waltrep, Dr. Tony Evens, Jeff Struecker and others in a time of worship and encouragement. I still hear stories today about how life-changing that event was.
Prior to the event I hosted a special dinner for wounded Veterans and gold star families. It was a great privilege to sit across the table from President Bush and watch him interact with those that had served and sacrificed for this country. They all appreciated and deserved to be honored! I am so thankful for the Veterans who have served our country!
The event was also a time to honor the man who gave His life so we could have eternal freedom. Jesus Christ died so whoever calls on His name and follows him would be saved. He gives us a new name and a new home. We are in this world but no longer of this world.
We reflect on Veterans Day this week and turn our eyes to honor those who choose to serve a cause greater than their own life. Remember that there is one man who chose to walk in our shoes and take on our sin so we would truly be set free. Freedom comes at a cost. One thing you can be certain of if you follow Christ is that price has been paid in full and your freedom will last forever. Walk in that freedom and help share about it so others can experience it!
